GUITAR ENGINEERING
Common questions

Questions & answers.

The things people ask most about setups, repairs and booking. Can't see yours? Send a message and we'll happily help.

What does a guitar setup include?
A setup adjusts the neck, action and intonation so the instrument plays comfortably and stays in tune across the whole fretboard — alongside pickup height and a full inspection.
How often should a guitar be set up?
Most guitars benefit from a setup every 6–12 months, or whenever you notice buzzing, tuning instability or poor playability — and after a big change in season, strings or tuning.
How much does a setup cost?
It depends on the condition of the instrument and the work involved, but a standard setup is an affordable way to dramatically improve how a guitar plays. You'll always get a clear quote first.
How long does a setup or repair take?
Turnaround depends on the work required, but most setups and minor repairs are completed quickly. Larger repairs and refrets are quoted with a realistic timescale up front.
Do you work on basses and other stringed instruments?
Yes — as well as electric and acoustic guitars, we work on basses and stringed instruments. If you're unsure whether yours is something we can help with, just ask.
Can you collect my instrument, or should I bring it in?
Either works. We can collect from you, or you can deliver to us — whichever is easier. Get in touch and we'll arrange it.
How experienced are you?
The bench is run by a master guitar tech and luthier with over a decade of experience, taking a scientific approach grounded in the physics behind music. Recording studios, music professionals and private clients across the UK trust their instruments to Rockfield.
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes — the workshop is appointment only. The easiest way is to book online, or send a message on WhatsApp and we'll find a time.
Where are you based?
